Spring — Short Update and Learning from AI

Hi everyone! This is Joey from the Service Beakers staff.

In this post, I want to provide a short update and reminder, and then discuss a topic particularly relevant to our students.

We are still seeking donations for our laptop grant program. In particular, our partner organizations in Greenville, NC, and the Triangle area still need our support. If you or your organization have laptop(s) available for donation, please reach out to us at contact@servicebeakers.com. Additionally, to learn more about this initiative, please visit its dedicated page here

In this post, I also wanted to highlight some of the amazing artificial intelligence (AI) tools available for students. While these tools should always be used responsibly, they can provide a fantastic “teacher-like” experience for more accessible learning. Here are a few we recommend as a starting point:

  • Khanmigo: A tool from the renowned learning platform Khan Academy. It is $4 per month and specializes in K-12 subjects, guiding students through concepts rather than simply giving answers.
  • Grammarly: An AI-infused writing tool that can help students improve their composition skills through feedback ranging from grammar to tone and style. There is a free version as well as a $12 per month premium version.
  • Perplexity: A great tool for research and finding quality sources. It offers both free and paid plans with minimal creative interpretation of information.
  • OmniSets: An AI-powered flashcard tool that can source information from class notes or simply manual input. There are multiple ways to practice the flashcards in the software, and it is completely free.

From all of us at Service Beakers—have a great day!
